This year’s theme to mark the world’s environmental day is Eco Restoration. The eco system restoration simply means activities that involve reversing the degradation of ecosystems that include air, light, soil and oceans to regain their ecological functionality.  Through active human intervention the productivity and capacity of ecosystems to meet the needs of society can be widely improved.

The environment continues to suffer significantly from various sources of pollution.  Lately the human race is threatened due to impact of plastic pollution on the environment as the world is swamped with handling an expeditious increase in manufacturing of disposable plastic products. Indisputably   plastic offers a level of satisfaction which eventually led to the inappropriate disposal, giving away its disadvantages that include threatening of wildlife, spreading toxins and causing global warming.

The Women in Energy and Economic Sustainability Initiative (WEESI) to mark the world environmental day has set up a day to create awareness for the purpose of the protection of the environment.  The issue of plastic waste is set to be put on the spotlight, to highlight the crucial need of plastic waste being properly recycled and not ending up in the environment. Activities such as climate change awareness, renewable energy education, tree planting, recycling activities has been put in place to achieve this aim and get the public more involved with environmental sustainability and eco restoration.
