Bringing Clean Cooking to Jabi: Weesi & Dotakeaction Empower Women with Improved Cookstove 

On 12th March, Women in Energy and Economic Sustainability Initiative, in collaboration with Dotakeaction, took a significant step toward empowering women in Dakibwu_a small community_ in Jabi, Abuja. Where a group of enthusiastic women eagerly joined us for an awareness session on improved cookstoves and charcoal briquettes—a game-changer in clean cooking solutions.

Transforming Lives Through Clean Cooking

For many households in rural communities, traditional cooking methods—such as firewood and kerosene stoves—pose serious health risks and economic burdens. These inefficient fuels not only contribute to deforestation and indoor air pollution but also drain household finances due to rising fuel costs.

At the session, we introduced the women to energy-efficient cookstoves and charcoal briquettes, showing them how these alternatives provide:

– Healthier cooking with less smoke

– Lower fuel costs and more savings

– Faster cooking times for increased efficiency

– Environmental sustainability by reducing deforestation

Hands-On Demonstration & Impactful Feedback 

The women not only learned about the benefits of improved cookstoves, but they also got a chance to see and feel the difference firsthand. We demonstrated how charcoal briquettes—made from locally sourced agricultural waste—can serve as a cleaner, cheaper fuel alternative.

Several women adopted the improved cookstoves and shared their excitement:

I can’t believe how little charcoal I need to cook a full meal! one woman exclaimed.

This will save me so much money on firewood. Thank you! another added with a smile.

Even a woman who uses gas amongst them got one with excitement of not needing to buy gas as regularly especially now with the inflated gas price

The Future of Clean Cooking in Rural Communities

This initiative is just the beginning. WEESI and Dotakeaction committed to empowering more women with knowledge and access to clean energy solutions. We plan to expand our outreach, ensuring more households experience the benefits of clean cooking technology.
